PVII class helps get the Solar Bike Trailer in Gear

Appropriate Tech grad students Aaron Stiffney and George Lewis worked with Jim Dees in the Office of Sustainability to design and build a state-of-the-art, multimode solar electric system for the new UREC mobile bike trailer. The SolarEdge StorEdge system incorporates an LG Chem Lithium ion battery and SolarEdge inverter and is able to run the trailer in stand alone mode while on the road or in grid connected mode while docked on campus.

Aaron and Jim invited the STBE Photovoltaics II class to come out last week and help perform a final modification to the system: replacing the DC optimizers, which involved removing and replacing the roof mounted PV modules. Shortly after, Aaron commissioned the system and it works!

Thanks Office of Sustainability for another great project that allows our students to get their hands on some of the latest tech in action!
