At the Clean Tech Summit in Chapel Hill, Feb 20-21, 2020, Brent Summerville, Practitioner-in-Residence in Sustainable Technology, was awarded 2nd place in 2020 Strata Solar Clean Tech Award contest. Summerville designed a battery-based, stand-alone, solar-electric system called SHED (Solar Home Energy Device) for charging the new battery-powered tools such as lawn mowers, blowers, string trimmers and eBikes in the modern backyard shed. Brent has recently been awarded a $2500 grant from the Appalachian Energy Center to build SHED version 2.0 and document the build and installation process for dissemination.
