The Graduate Program within the Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment provides advanced education, research opportunities, and professional development in selected technical areas. The program furthers the Department's vision of "Building Solutions, Developing Leaders" by expanding on the recognized excellence of our undergraduate degree programs. Within the Master of Science in Technology we offer four concentrations:
- Appropriate Technology
- Building Science
- Renewable Energy Engineering
- Sustainable Design and Construction
Each student designs a unique program of study that includes a common core of required course work and up to 18 elective hours tailored to the individual's concentration area, background, and individual interests. Cross-disciplinary study and field-based internships are encouraged. Many graduate students incorporate international experiences into their program of study. One way this can be accomplished is through study abroad courses and internships.
We welcome applicants from a broad range of backgrounds who seek to move to a new level of intellectual and professional achievement. Our graduate students have served as lead investigators in renewable energy research and outreach projects, as research assistants on a wide variety of funded projects, as project managers in competitions such as the USDOE Race to Zero, and through service outreach to agencies such as Habitat for Humanity.

Campus visits are welcomed. Formal application to the program is made through the online admissions page on the Graduate School website. Admission decisions are based on your personal statement of goals, three letters of recommendation, your undergraduate GPA, and your combined GRE Verbal and Quantitative scores.
There are two admission deadlines: July 1 (for Fall enrollment), and November 1(for Spring enrollment). In order to be considered for available scholarships for the coming academic year, applications must be completed by March 1. Applicants should be aware that available spaces may fill before the posted application deadlines.
