Assistant/Associate Professor in Sustainable Technology

The Sustainable Technology Program in the Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment (STBE) at Appalachian State University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor faculty position with emphasis in renewable electricity systems such as: wind, electric vehicles, battery storage, PV, and microgrids.  

For hire at the Assistant Professor level, Earned Doctorate, or under exceptional circumstances Master’s degree with professional licensure, in a related field of technology, science, or engineering required at time of hire; demonstrated ability in teaching; evidence of ability for research; and a willingness to participate in institutional affairs and professional service to the University.

For hire at the Associate Professor level, Earned Doctorate, or under exceptional circumstances Master’s degree with professional licensure, in a related field of technology, science, or engineering required at time of hire; at least five (5) years of appropriate experience; recognized skill in teaching; recognized accomplishment in research or other germane creative activity; recognized accomplishment in professional service to the University and/or to the public; and demonstrated willingness to participate in institutional affairs. The candidate must meet the Departmental requirements for promotion to Associate Professor.

Primary responsibilities include: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses related to sustainability and renewable energy technology in the Sustainable Technology program and expand the professional contacts of the program in the renewable energy industry. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, participating in program and departmental service work, advising students, and maintaining and enhancing student/research labs. Throughout their teaching, research, and service duties, the successful applicant should promote diversity and inclusive excellence.

Qualifications given special consideration are: (1) experience in the design, installation, commissioning, and performance testing of renewable energy systems (e.g. wind, electric vehicles, battery storage, PV, micro-grid); (2) university teaching experience; (3) an active research agenda, as demonstrated by journal publications, presentations, and/or external research funding; (4) professional work experience or certifications in relevant industries; (5) a demonstrated commitment to sustainability; and (6) evidence of promoting diversity and inclusive excellence.
