We are thrilled to share that Skylar Miller, a Construction Management student in our Building Science program, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Modular Construction Education Foundation Scholarship! Presented by the Modular Building Institute, this honor recognizes outstanding students shaping the future of the industry.
For Skylar, modular construction is a lifelong passion inspired early on by her grandfather. Today, she is turning that inspiration into action—championing affordable housing initiatives, stepping into commercial construction, and focusing on sustainable, community-driven building practices.
"It means a lot to have been selected to go and represent Appalachian State at this conference. I learned so much about the growing modular construction industry and made great connections with professionals from all over the country and even the world," says Skylar.
With this scholarship, Skylar was able to attend the World of Modular event to deepen her understanding of large-scale modular systems. Notably, this marks the third consecutive year that a student from App State's Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment (STBE) has taken home this national award.
