Dr. Arezou Sadoughi and STBE students proudly represented both the department and the University at the International Mass Timber Conference 2026 in Portland, Oregon from March 30th to April 5th. At the conference, the world’s largest mass timber conference and expo, Dr. Sadoughi and a team of two graduate students and three senior undergraduate students showcased an innovative hybrid modular mass timber mock-up, highlighting the Building Science program’s focus on workforce training for industrialized construction. This effort was initiated to address a key workforce training goal of the USDA Forest Service Wood Innovation Grant, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Arezou Sadoughi.

Throughout the event, the team successfully assembled and disassembled a flat-pack version of the mock-up, demonstrating the program’s strength in hands-on learning and advanced construction technologies. Their exhibit underscored STBE’s leadership in preparing students for the future of sustainable and modular building practices.
